Carrie Roelle’s practice focuses primarily in the area of employment law.  She counsels employers with practical solutions to employment issues they face each day, including matters involving discrimination laws, leave laws, wage and hour compliance, employee discipline and discharge, employee handbooks and policies, and litigation avoidance.  She also defends employers before state and federal courts and administrative agencies in matters involving allegations of discrimination, harassment, interference, retaliation and wage and hour violations.  As a trained Title IX investigator and adjudicator, Carrie conducts fair and impartial Title IX investigations and can serve as an adjudicator overseeing the complex live hearing Title IX grievance process.

  • Investigations: Conducts Title IX investigations for universities and workplace investigations for employers involving allegations of sexual harassment and/or discrimination.

  • Training: Provides management training on various employment issues including FMLA, ADA, and Title VII compliance and sexual harassment avoidance.

  • Workplace Violence Restraining Orders: Assists employers in obtaining retraining orders on behalf their employees to prevent further contact by former clients, customers, or vendors.

  • Employment Litigation: Numerous successful defenses of employers in federal court and federal and state administrative proceedings.

  • FMLA Litigation: Obtained complete summary judgment in the Southern District of Indiana in favor of a large manufacturing company in suits brought by former employee alleging violations of rights under the FMLA.
  • Human Resources: Advises employers on human resource issues, including hiring new employees and evaluating, disciplining, and terminating existing employees.
  • Employment Matters: Counsels employers in all areas of employment law, including wage and hour compliance, classification of exempt status, leave of absence issues, and compliance with federal, state and local laws, including claims arising under Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) and the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).  Prepares employment agreements, including non-competition and severance agreements.
  • Employee Handbooks and Policy Manuals: Advises employers on best practices for avoiding litigation, including drafting legally compliant employee handbooks, workplace policies and procedures and providing training on such policies.
  • Wrongful Termination Defense: Defends employers in resolution and litigation involving wrongful termination and breach of employment contract claims.
  • Insurance Defense: Successfully defended driver in clear liability auto accident litigation; obtained jury verdict for less than pre-trial offer of settlement.
  • Collections, Creditors’ Rights and Subrogation: Obtained successful judgments for clients in over 100 bench trials involving collection and subrogation matters.
