All Employers Must Use New Form I-9

As of January 22 of this year, all employers must use the new version of Form I-9. The updated version includes several changes.  The new form along with instruction for completing the form can be found here:

We suggest using the downloadable, fillable PDF version rather than the paper form. The fillable PDF is a smart form that uses validation tests, making it less likely that employers will make technical errors for which they can be fined. The form is easy to download using Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari. Google Chrome is less user-friendly.

Although the new I-9 Form is available in a digital format, it must still be printed and signed by the employee and the employer’s representative. It cannot be signed electronically. Forms that are not signed manually are not complete. Incomplete forms and/or failure to use the new form may subject employers to fines. Fines for Form I-9 paperwork violations range from $216 to $2,156 per form for the first offense, and increase with subsequent offenses.
